Matt Jacobson’s father worked with the National Forest Service, and would relocate wherever they sent him and his family. Matt eventually “went to school everywhere”, paying his way through college shoeing horses, and aspiring to teach at the college level.

Simplicity is woven throughout Jacobson’s art, both in his subject matter and painting style. Sensitivity to character and place, to motion, and acute attention to proportions are his long- standing trademarks. The artist gathers inspiration from the traditions of the Amish lifestyle – one of simplicity and devotion to family and land. The peaceful and soothing feelings are depicted with soft brush strokes and comfortable color palettes, but not overworked with excessive details – true to the heritage.
