"Eighty Acres" Artist statement.
In December 2011, I visited the Milwaukee Art Museum to see the exhibition Impressionism: Masterworks on Paper. The first room was filled with small works, including pastels by Edward Degas.
This room captivated me. I was charmed by the small scale and intimacy of the work, the torn edges and irregularities of old soft paper. Driving home that evening, I knew I wanted to do a show incorporating these elements.
�Eighty Acres� is designed to read like the pages of a book. A day, then another day. A season followed by another season... the story of lives held solid by the land.
